This is a sampling of the flowers that I created for a class that I call Lace in Bloom. Several of the flowers are made with individual petals that are made from a “magic web” technique that I created using Solvy. The other flowers are made from a length of lace. All of the laces were dyed with ColorHue dyes. Fun, fun, fun!
This is a gallery project that I made starting with an old salt shaker for the vase. I wrapped the vase in several pieces of vintage lace and added a satin ribbon bow. I filled it with buttons attached to wire stems, and blooms that can be found in my book Ribbonwork Flowers by C&T Publishing.
Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. The base of the brooch is made from a vintage embroidered hanky, sewn over a Fast2Fuse base. The heart shape is adorned with vintage lace, silk ribbon embroidery and ribbonwork flowers, many of which were hand-dyed in my class Dyeing to Be Beautiful.
This is a finished sample of a class that I teach called Scruptious Scraps. The base of this wall hanging is made from a mesh of vintage and new lace. The base, ribbons, embroidery threads and silk embroidery ribbons were all dyed with Colorhue Dyes. I added in a few Hanah silk bias ribbons that were in the same color pallet as my other components. A few beads and charms were added in here and there for extra flourish.
Elegant Gardens consists of nine individual panels worked in a variety of silk bias ribbons and silk embroidery ribbons. Each individual garden is worked in a variety of stitches, which also include extra embellishments such as buttons, vintage lace or charms. Each of these vignettes could also be worked into an existing quilt block or square. There are fourteen embroidery stitches, which you will learn in Lesson 1. There are nine ribbonwork flowers that you will learn throughout the following lessons, with variations of the fourteen embroidery stitches.
Lesson 1: In this class you will learn the embroidery stitches that include the blanket, feather, pistol stitch, outline, straight, couched, lazy daisy, bullion, French knot, ribbon stitch, bullion tipped lazy daisy, petite rose center, ribbon rose and loop stitch. These will be worked in silk embroidery ribbon and threads. In the second part of the lesson you will prepare your squares of fabric for the following classes.
Here is Lizbeth’s dress for March, it is her Spring Tea dress. Please join the rest of the Dress Up group over at Alice and Camilla’s for their March productions!
The ladies that live in Lizbeth’s apartment building get together once a year and host a fundraiser for the local public gardens. Lizbeth loves to walk by the gardens on her way to work or for a weekend stroll, as do all of the other ladies that live around her.
Each has her own favorite, for instance Constance loves the roses, and Deborah loves the lily section, but Lizbeth is particularly fond of the pansy and petunia display.
Lizbeth made her dress from vintage lace and vintage and new ribbon worked flowers. She dyed the lace and some of the ribbons for her gown.
She had seen a new shop in the village that had extraordinary accessories and thought she might find a purse to match her gown. She found the sweet little reticule on display with the parasol and the magnificent chapeau. Well there was no turning back when she saw the set displayed together. When she tried on the hat she felt a little bit like Eliza Doolittle on her way to the races, but she didn’t think that she would have a chance to say “Come on Dover, move your bloomin’ arse”!
She is a girl after my own heart, bold and beautiful, and she is definitely no shrinking violet!
This is my entry for Mixed Media Monday’s challenge this week which is: Vintage Children. Take a moment to check out the other entries, there are a lot of really talented people who enter!
I started with a card that actually was a reproduction of a Victorian Greeting card. I added in bits of art paper, vintage lace, vintage Jacquard fabric, new paper lace, and a darling little birds next. I hand-made the ribbon worked flowers and leaves from vintage and new ribbons.
