Jacket full of Ribbonwork Gardens and Flowers

I have two things to share with you today…..

My first book Ribbonwork Gardens was just included in a blog post from ProFlowers; the post is 30 Books to Expand Your Love of Flowers. How exciting was that?!!!

I also just finished embellishing this jean jacket that I found at a thrift store. The front and back panels are embellished with the leftover ribbon flowers that I have made over the past three years for two of my books.

jean jacket with ribbonwork flowersSome of the flowers are from my first book, Ribbonwork Gardens, and some are from my new book, Ribbonwork Flowers. The rest are just are prototypes of flowers that I just liked, but didn’t get into either book.

Recycled Jewels

Recycling is something we learned very early at our house. The motto was if you can’t make it, then you buy it!

I have been playing around with this and that, odd bits of leftovers and just some junky stuff. This is what I have come up with…

charms, watches, bracelet

I had been collecting these ladies dress watches for a few years, and I have finally decided that they would make a great link bracelet. I found an vintage charm bracelet on eBay, that had most of the old charms you see here. I added in a few new ones that I sell in my store.

link bracelet, charms, buttons

This piece started with a box link bracelet blank. I glued mother of pearl buttons to the flat portion of the links. Then I gathered bits of charms, old earrings and some of this and that stuff that you can’t throw away.

link bracelet, charms, buttons

This bracelet is similar to the above bracelet, with the mother of pearl buttons that have been dyed blue. I added old shoe and glove buttons, some made of metal and others made of leather. I also added in the top portion of some old zippers.

Peapod Brooch

peapod brooch

I designed this brooch for my niece Jessica Hamilton creative and talented owner of Doll Project. The directions are free in her newsletter for February, which you can sign up for here.

The brooch is made from individually made peapods, “new peas”, leaves and flowers. These are made from a variety of ribbons, silk bias, satin and French wire.

I have made kits in three different color ways, which you can find here. These are available through the month of February only, or until supplies run out. The cost is $5.00 plus shipping and handling.

Enjoy~Christen
