The Embroidery Corner

The Embroidery Corner

**New Series Beginning March 6, 2018**

embroidery corner

The Embroidery Corner is a 16-week course that will introduce the student to hand embroidery techniques including traditional stitches using perle cotton and cotton floss; silk embroidery ribbon stitches using silk ribbon especially made for embroidery;  and bead embroidery stitches using seed beads, buttons and charms. It is required that you buy my book Embroidered and Embellished as I refer to the book during each class.

Each class will cover one embroidery stitch and it’s variations; or several related stitches and variations. These stitches included border row, decorative and detail stitches. The stitches will be worked on a muslin sampler that you can turn into a book of samplers. You will receive a handout for each class, which explains the stitch, how to use the stitch, and the variations of the stitch.

Large embellishment placement such as beads or buttons will also be discussed.

Lesson 2: In this class you will continue your design using these stitches within the areas you created in Lesson 1: continuous circular beading, single beads, groups of beads, bead combinations, single bead detail design, beaded cascade, large bead with picot tip, glass charms and beads. Embellishments and embroidery will include hand applied rayon cord, needlelace, shisha mirrors, and beading. Directions will be given to make a four-sided purse; however you could use your own pattern to make a pillow or wall hanging the choice is yours.

Lesson 1: This class is all about the textures! You will learn how to create crinkled and crunched portions into your fabric sections. Next you will create textures in other areas with single and twin needle stitching.
